Paul Dillet’s Collapse At The 1994 Arnold Classic
Bodybuilding events are not only taxing on your mind due to the insane pressure and stress, but they can also be very demanding for every challenger’s body. So it’s possible that, at times, some competitors might not be able to enter the event or they even quit. But there are rare situations when some of them might end up being unable to deal with the constant pressure. That’s exactly what happened to Paul Dillett.
Why did Paul Dillett experience during the 1994 Arnold Classic?
Paul Dillett was one of the main favorites to win the Arnold Classic during that year. At that time, his physique was amazing and he had an extremely impressive appearance. Which is why most fans chose him as the primary person to win the event. However, it was during the event that Paul Dillet ended up experiencing major cramping.
Apparently the issue was caused by an improper diuretics intake. During his first walk nothing seemed wrong, and Paul Dillett continued to perform as expected. However, after 30 minutes during his double biceps pose, he failed to do that. In fact, he started dealing with muscle spasms, which required him to go offstage. At that point he was still in pain.
How did he collapse?
While he was offstage, he was suggested to take some fluids, which he refused. Instead, after 30 minutes he chose to go onto the stage yet again, and a lot of people started applauding him. They believed that his spasms were not a problem anymore. Paul Dillett started doing some poses, yet it was obvious that he was not in his best state. He tried the double-biceps pose again and unfortunately when he tried that, he fell over. Obviously, a marshal came to him and helped him right away, along with other marshals.
Dillett was not able to move, so his transition off-scene was rather awkward. It’s hard to know what brought this issue, but a lot of people consider dehydration to be the number one factor. In fact, severe dehydration can lead to a heart attack, so it’s a very problematic thing to deal with.
Yet many bodybuilding competitors choose to dehydrate because it helps them improve their look. At the end of the day, Paul Dillett is one of the many competitors that tried to avoid hydration just to maintain an exceptional look, but as we can imagine every person has their own limits. And in his case, the lack of hydration brought an unexpected, rather scary collapse!
